Daniel Paul Houlihan

June 23, 1948 — November 20, 2021

Dan Houlihan, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly at his home on November 20, 2021, in the presence of his loving wife.  Dan was born on June 23, 1948, in Albuquerque to William Patrick and Margaret Pauline (Reilly) Houlihan.

At a young age Dan and the family moved to Santa Fe.  Dan graduated from Saint Michael’s High School in Santa Fe in 1966.  Shortly after his high school graduation, he joined the United States Army.  At the completion of his four years of duty, he attended New Mexico University and graduated in 1977.

During his years at UNM he was employed at Rust Tractor Company, Albuquerque.  Upon graduating from UNM he continued his employment with Rust, and worked in the Farmington, NM and El Paso, TX locations, before returning to Albuquerque in 1999.  He retired from Rust in 2002.

During the mid 60’s, Dan was the lead vocalist of a garage rock band.  They played in many small towns in New Mexico and even cut a record at the renowned Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, NM.  If you care to check it out, Google “The Fe Fi Four plus 2” and listen to their recordings.  If you do, keep in mind this was the 60’s.  After his military service, he played his guitar and sang at many weddings, funerals, family gatherings and other special occasions.  After his return to Albuquerque in 1999, he was a member of the choir at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, and later at Risen Savior Catholic Church.  He was a member of Risen Savior at the time of his death.

Dan was a member of The Canyon Club in Albuquerque, and absolutely loved playing golf with his many friends there.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Roseann (aka Bill).  Also surviving him are brothers David of Amarillo, TX, Donald (Nancy) of Estes Park, CO, Dale (Doris) of Santa Rosa, NM, and Dennis also of Santa Rosa, NM, sisters Annette (Fred) Boggs of Roswell, NM, and Linda (Dean) Cheshire of Albuquerque, NM, brother-in-law Wendell Braden of Cleveland, OK, sister-in-law Elaine (Chester) Lee of Cleveland, OK, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, and gobs of friends.  Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Pauline Houlihan.

Per Dan’s wishes, no services will be held.  Interment service will be held December 16, 2021, at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850, Fisher House Albuquerque, VA Loop @ Gibson, Albuquerque, NM 87108, Watermelon Mountain Ranch, 1380 Rio Rancho Blvd SE, Suite 374, Rio Rancho, NM  87124, or a charity of your choice.

In Dan’s memory, after a round of golf or if you are gathered with friends, I think he would like it if you shared a toast to him with a Coors Banquet.
