Daniel Coles

July 22, 1936 — February 1, 2025

Daniel John Coles "Jack" lived to the healthy age of 88 while residing in Rio Rancho since 1979. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 1, 2025.


Jack was born on July 22, 1936 to Winthrop Otis Coles and Lily Mae Thompson in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in California. After Jack graduated from Fremont High School in 1955 he went on to join the Air Force. He worked from the age of 11 at Coles Wire Products, which his father owned. He served in the Air Force for 8 years before returning to Coles Wire Products. He also worked for 10 years mining uranium before joining the Air National Guard and worked as a civilian contractor while fixing the electrical instrument systems of airplanes throughout his military career. He proudly served over 21 years in the United States Air Force.


In 1968 Jack met Virginia working at Coles Wire Products in LA. He married Virginia in Las Vegas on Dec 5, 1971 and moved to New Mexico they were happily married for 53 years. They went on to have 2 children, Tina and Terri.


In 1996 Jack retired from the Air Force and spent his time camping, fishing, traveling, cooking, fixing anything that needed fixing, storytelling, watching cowboy movies and Star Trek


Jack was predeceased by his parents Winthrop Otis Coles and Lily Mae Coles. His in-laws Frances Sedillo, Freddie Salas, Marie and Tom Bolz, and Betty Sedillo.

He is survived by his children Carla McCue, Gina Williams, Patricia Coles, Daniel John Coles II, Robin Baez, Kimberly Donaldson, Tina Helle, and Terri Coles. He has 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. His wife Virginia A Coles, his sisters Donna and Patricia. His in-laws Ray Sedillo, Toni Salas, Cel Sedillo, Gloria and Sam Henson, Norena and Drew Addington, Paul and Arlene Sedillo and Jack's former wife Pat Coles and his many beloved nieces and nephews.
