Dana Kay Pexa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and community advocate, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 80.
Dana was born on October 21, 1944, in Brownwood, Texas, to Narn Vernon and Veva Bolton. She spent her early years in Brownwood before moving to Fort Pierre, South Dakota, where she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Revi M. Pexa. The two were married in 1965, beginning a 57-year journey together filled with love, laughter, and shared memories.
Dana and Revi later moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1969 where they established their home and built a beautiful life surrounded by family and friends. Dana was known for her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community.
As a devoted wife and mother, she raised three sons- Revi Don Pexa (husband Robert Tavani), John Pexa (wife Kristen), and Van Christopher, and became a cherished grandmother to Chloe Pexa, Kane Pexa, and Jayden Fox. In addition she was a surrogate mother and grandmother to many.
A woman of great strength and resilience, Dana valiantly battled breast cancer in 2018, only to face a second diagnosis of angiosarcoma of the breast in the years that followed. Despite these challenges, she maintained an unwavering spirit, always focused on her family, her community, and her passions.
Dana's involvement in the community was nothing short of extraordinary. She was an active participant in organizations such as the PTA of Montgomery Elementary School, Cub Scouts, and New Mexico Special Olympics, which held a special place in her heart. As an advocate for special needs athletes, Dana dedicated countless hours to ensure that these athletes had the support and recognition they deserved. Her kindness, compassion, and commitment to others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Dana was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Revi M. Pexa, and her sister, Joyce Hamby. She is survived by her three sons, her grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will remember her for her warmth, generosity, and enduring love.
Dana's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a shining example of love, strength, and devotion, and her memory will continue to inspire those who carry her spirit forward.
A heartfelt gratitude to Visiting Angels of Albuquerque, Bosque Trails Hospice, and countless friends that were always there at her side.
A celebration of Dana's life will be held at FRENCH-Wyoming on Sunday, December 29, 2024. A viewing will begin at 5:30 PM, followed by a Rosary at 6:30 PM.
