Damacio Isidro Ulibarri Sr., 91, of Ogden, Utah passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at Gardens Assisted Living where he was a resident for nine months. Born on Thursday, February 4, 1932, in Ribera, N.M., Damacio was a life-long resident of New Mexico until late 2022. Damacio and his seven siblings grew up on the ranch along with his parents, Aniceto and Pablita. As a United States Army Korean War Veteran, Damacio proudly served his country with honor. After his service, Damacio became a copper miner in Superior, Arizona. Damacio then moved to Grants, N.M. and became a uranium miner.
After residing in Grants for many years and raising his family, Damacio and Feliz relocated to Rio Rancho, N.M. in 1988. Damacio loved camping, fishing, travelling, and gardening. His yard was a sanctuary filled with green chile plants, pomegranates, trees, and beautiful flowers. Most days you could find him outside watering his plants and listening to New Mexican Rancheras music and playing with their dog, Cabrini. Damacio also enjoyed sharing delicious meals with his family and friends, but his favorite part of the meal was always the dessert! He was hands-down the greatest taquito fryer and green chile aficionado of all time! He was greatly loved and adored by his entire family and was known for his great sense of humor and beautiful smile. He had a special relationship with each one of his grandchildren and attended their many extracurricular activities including cheer competitions, soccer matches, band performances, Friday night lights (football games), and many other special events.
Damacio is survived by his devoted wife, Feliz, of almost 64 years on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, of Ogden, Utah; daughter, Jennifer (Joe) Silva of Rociada, N.M.; sons, Derek (Janice) of North Ogden, Utah, and Damacio Jr. (Kimberly) of Gilbert, Arizona; and eight grandchildren, Joseph (Lyanne) Silva of Albuquerque, N.M., Matthew (Laura) Silva of Albuquerque, Edward and Aaron Ulibarri, both of Reno, Nevada, Hollie and Damacio Blas Ulibarri of Gilbert, Arizona, Desmond (Kimberly) Salas North Ogden, Utah and Justin (April) Tafoya of Ogden, Utah; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua, Elijah, Noah and Penelope Silva of Albuquerque, Jayde and Sayge Salas, Mya Miller of North Ogden Utah; sisters, Magdalena Villanueva and Amalia Gutierrez and dog, Cabrini.
