Dale Annette Cason, called Annette by all, passed away after a battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) at the home she shared with her loving husband, Nolan Patterson Cason on May 1st, 2022.
Born to Earl Douglass Darrel (Doug) and Martha Angelina Chavez on July 19, 1967, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. After an early childhood in southern NM, the family moved to Tucson AZ where she graduated high school at Palo Verde High in 1984. Annette met Nolan in Tucson in 1985 and they were married in 1986. As a part of Nolan's military career, they were stationed in Germany, and many US states. They welcomed daughters Dakota Lynn (1991) and Cheyenne Marie (1993) and were later blessed to adopt daughter Corrine Victoria (b.1991) in 2009. She has four grandchildren so far - Estrella (16), Cason (9), Elisio (8), and Aldrin (2). She also leaves behind a sister, Allison Rosane-Darrell, and many extended family who will miss her dearly.
She earned a Bachelor's degree from Prescott College and her Master's from Chaminade University, both in service of her teaching goals. She was a talented and passionate educator and loved all of her students. She taught everything from Pre-K to High School students throughout her career, before moving to Albuquerque and joining the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Catholic School District to teach 5th grade - first at Our Lady of the Assumption and then at St. Therese Catholic school. She was beloved by students and staff alike.
Annette was an avid reader, an accomplished painter and artist, and enjoyed crafts of any kind. She loved traveling, hiking, skiing, biking, and so much more. She also enjoyed attending plays, concerts, musicals, and movies. Music from rock to pop and many other genres fed her soul. She loved all animals and will be missed by her two rescue cats and devoted dog.
Throughout her battle with MBC, she championed fundraising for Stage IV research. Only a very small percentage of annual breast cancer donations go towards research and treatment for late-stage MBC, and she was passionate about fundraising to bridge that gap. Her family is asking that anyone who wishes to contribute please consider donating to Metavivor in her memory. 100% of their donations go to Stage IV research for a cure.
The Memorial Service will be on Saturday, May 21st at Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Albuquerque. 11:00 Rosary, 11:30 Mass, Reception to follow.
