D. Eva Chavez, 91, passed away in Albuquerque on April 22, 2021.
Eva was born March 26, 1930, to Fred and Luisa Sanchez in Clayton, NM. In 1948 she graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Albuquerque, then went on to secretarial school and began a 30-year career at Sandia Labs. She was a longtime member of both the Coronado Club and the Solo Club. Once divorced and once widowed, Eva supported her first husband through college and her second husband through retirement. Meanwhile she raised five children and resided in her home for fifty years. Eva was a people person, a natural-born comedian who lit up the room. She enjoyed social gatherings with family, friends, music and dancing—especially dancing!
Eva was preceded in death by husbands, Robert C. Monson and Manuel J. Chavez; parents Fred and Luisa Sanchez; her son, Richard Monson, siblings Victoria, Fred Jr., Luis, Josie, Louie, Archie, Conrad, Al, Margaret, Art, Terri and Donald. She is survived by one brother, Danny Sanchez; her children, Bob, Ron (Melanie), Roger Monson and Suzanne Lutz (Roald) and her grandchildren, Adam, Aaron, and Anthony Monson, Megan Linehan, Nico (nee Anne), Chad, and Caroline Lutz, Michael, Annaleigh, and Richard Monson, Elizabeth and Emilianna Krista; and one great grandson Panashe, and many other family and “dear, dear friends.”
Eva will be remembered most for her kindness and compassion, her strength of character, her grace and charm, her impeccable style, and her effervescent laughter. She was a beautiful lady who generously spread her love around to every person she ever met.
