Cristobal A. Gonzales passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 25,2021, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Chris was born in Roy, New Mexico to Alfredo Gonzales and Elena Chavez Gonzales, on October 12, 1934. After graduation from Roy High School, he served in the Air Force, then worked in electronics at sites in the United States and the Middle East.
Chris married Elsie Gallegos in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1961. They raised their family in Phoenix, Arizona where he worked in real estate. Chris was a devout Catholic. He was active in many church ministries including the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Phoenix, and later the St. Vincent de Paul Society at San Juan Bautista Parish, in Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico.
Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Elsie; children, Christoper Gonzales, Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Army, Carla Steverson and husband Larry of Kona, Hawaii, Melissa Gonzales and grandson John Parker of Albuquerque; brothers, Alfred Gonzales and Leo Gonzales of Santa Fe; sister, Gertrude Oliver of Albuquerque; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, George Gonzales, Rose Padilla, Felisa Rodriguez, Priscilla Vigil and Cecelia Hernandez; and parents-in-laws Apolonio and Arminda Gallagos.
The family wishes to acknowledge the special lifelong friendships Chris had with Paul Nenninger, Rudy Gonzales, and Cassie and Thelma Esquibel; and the friendship and support of in-laws Andres and Mary Gallegos, Jane and Tony Trujillo, and nephew, Gilbert Borrego.
Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A celebration of life for Chris will be held at a later date.
