Cora Martinez, age 99, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on March 8, 2024. She was a devoted daughter, spouse, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born on April 22, 1924, in Albuquerque, NM. Born to Ramon and Estella Baca, she was raised by her Aunt & Uncle, Catalina and Felipe Chavez. She is survived by her only child Michael Martinez and his wife Dolores (Seattle); sister Pricilla "Prissi" Ramirez (Albuquerque); granddaughter Jeannette Illsley and husband Peter (Seattle); great-grandchildren Lyra and Zach Illsley (Seattle); many cousins, nieces and nephews.
After High School and Business School, she worked for the Air Force at Kirkland AFB during WWII, as a supply clerk. After the War, she married Antonio "Tony" Martinez, had son, Michael "Mike" Martinez and all became long time members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. In later years, after her husband passed away and her son and wife had moved to Denver, Co., she continued to attend mass at Our Lady of Fatima and had many friends there. In June 2018, she moved to Seattle Washington to live with her son Michael and his wife Dolores.
She enjoyed embroidery, needlepoint, crochet, gardening, music, and crossword puzzles. She believed in a Catholic education and made sure her son went to a Catholic Grade School (Fatima) and a Catholic High School (St. Pius X) in Albuquerque.
She was preceded in death by her husband Antonio "Tony" Martinez, her natural parents Ramon and Estella Baca, her parents that raised her Catalina and Felipe Chavez, and her Brothers and Sisters, Rosa Lovato, Josefina "Fito" Gurule, Victoria "Vicki" Moya, Benjamin "Bennie" Baca, Ramon Baca, Theresa "Tere" Trujillo, Robert "Bobby" Baca, Fermin "Ferm" Baca, Viola Baca, Leroy Baca, and Dennis Baca.
A Rosary and Visitation will be held Tues, March 19, 2024, from- 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the FRENCH-University. A Catholic Mass will be offered on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 10:00am - 11:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church at 4020 Lomas Blvd NE. Interment will be on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 2:30pm - 3:00pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery (Section 6).
