Consuelo C' de Baca, age 93-devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother-was reunited with her son and grandson in heaven on January 7, 2016. Consuelo was born in Bernalillo, NM on May 26, 1922 to Vito and Corine C'de Baca (Castillo). A lifelong learner, she received her BA in Education from St. Joseph's College in 1953 and her MA in Guidance and Counseling from the University of New Mexico in 1965. She impacted hundreds of young people as a general and special education teacher at numerous schools in Bernalillo and Albuquerque as well as serving as a counselor at Valley and Eldorado High Schools. She retired from Albuquerque Public Schools in 1985 and continued to work with the students she loved at Pueblo Pintado Community School. Consuelo was an avid traveler, but her heart remained with the rich cultural diversity of her home state.
Consuelo was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Father Vito and Gilbert C'de Baca, sisters Anita Torres and Zita Gonzales, son Donald Torres, and grandson John Leonard Torres. She is survived by brother, Armando (Agnes) C'de Baca; sister, Peggy Tixier; daughter, Cori (Elton) Hodgson; son, Ronald (Melinda) Torres; 13 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Consuelo's life will be celebrated Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH- Wyoming. A reception will immediately follow. Service will be presided over by her great-nephew, Carlos Griego.
Consuelo's family will forever be indebted to the superior caregivers at La Vida Llena who blessed the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of NM act.alz.org/.
