Col. John T. Vender (Ret.) II

November 9, 1944 — June 19, 2016

Col. (Ret) John T. Vender II, 71 years, of Corrales, New Mexico and formerly of Oil City, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Born on November 9, 1944 in Oil City, Pennsylvania, he was the eldest son of the late Theodore (Ted) and Evaline (Mitcham) Vender. After graduating from Oil City High School, John attended Tri State College, Angola, Indiana where he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. On May 31, 1969 John married Christine McKarns.
Col. Vender's military career included assignments in 10 states. He served in Vietnam as a forward air control pilot flying an OV-10 Bronco completing 99 missions throughout the country. He received a Masters Degree in Systems and Industrial Engineering from the University of Florida in Gainsville. After a 25-year career, he retired in 1995.

John developed a passion for genealogy and tracing his family back through the generations. He also loved biking and hiking the back roads of Corrales. His main love, however, was his family.
Surviving are his wife, Christine, of Corrales, New Mexico; one son, Stephen and his wife, Sally; one daughter, Carissa, and her husband Jeff; four grandchildren, Branna, Evan, Asher, and Margaret, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico and one brother, Gary, of Tucson, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael.

Services will be held on November 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. John in Albuquerque.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to contribute to a charity of the donor's choice or to simply raise a glass of wine and remember the good times.
