Roberson, Coda Clyde
Coda Clyde Roberson went to rest with Jesus on Friday, March 18, 2016, after almost 98 years on this earth. He was born in Vicksburg, MS on April 7, 1918 to Coda C. and Bessie E. Roberson. He was preceded in death by his son, Owen Lee Roberson.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Reba Roberson; and his children, Robby Roberson and wife, Von, Coda Roberson III and partner, Jack Hadad, Karl Thomas and wife, Becky, Dava Ong and husband, Richard, Corvin Thomas, Neva Coffee and husband, Marvin, and Tamela Thomas and husband, Doug McDonald.
Coda always worked hard, as his father died when he was 9 years old. After graduation, he joined the Army Air Corp before World War II. He was captured in the Philippines and survived the horrible Bataan Death March. He was one of many prisoners then moved to Japan as slave labor. There he worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for 3 and half years.
He survived his capture and returned to Albuquerque where he married his former wife Dorothy Galassini and had 3 sons. He was a prominent homebuilder and built thousands of homes in New Mexico. He became the first president of the Home Builders Association. After retirement Coda and Reba traveled many places, enjoying particularly China, Egypt and South America. Coda loved his large family and was adored and respected by all. His grandchildren number 14: Kathy Roberson and husband, Leroy Gallegos, Shannon Wildenstein and husband, Jim, Brett Owen Matthew, Keelan Thomas, Kyle Thomas and wife, Cara; Koda Thomas and wife, Katie, Cara Wilson and husband, Paul, Vanda Savage and husband, Seneca, Tyler Ong, Shawn Thomas and wife, Sarah, Heather Thomas, Venita Crespo, Don Coffee and wife, Laura, LaVown Rich and husband, David, and Tug McDonald. He has 23 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Coda loved studying his Bible and generously working in his church. He was respected by those who knew him and was an example to his family and friends.
A Service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016, 10:00 a.m., at Sagebrush Community Church, 6440 Coors Blvd NW. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
