Cloyce Harrison

November 29, 1924 — May 4, 2015

Cloyce Harrison of Albuquerque went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2015. He was born on November 29, 1924 to Howard Cromwell Harrison and Beulah Mae Harrison in Seymour, TX. In 1942 he graduated from Leveland High School, and in December of that year enlisted in the navy. He studied at the University of Texas and the University of Georgia. In April of 1943 he was called to active duty and attended officer training. He then attended naval aviation school and studied navigation and naval law. He became a torpedo plane and dive bomber pilot, operating from aircraft carriers. He rose to the rank of Lt. Commander before separating from the navy at the end of World War II. After the war he returned to West Texas. While working near Roswell, he met the love of his life, Helen Caraway Harrison. They would be married and in love 51 years until her death in 2004. When he returned to Texas he began a career in the concrete masonry industry. His passion for business and innovation led him to create and introduce 20 new-to-market concrete products; become a board member and president of the Texas, New Mexico and US National Concrete Masonry Associations; and manage businesses for the Featherlight Corporation in Lubbock, San Antonio, El Paso, and Memphis. He also owned and operated Roadrunner Equipment Company in Albuquerque. In 1996 he retired as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Crego Block Company in Albuquerque. Apart from professional life, he was a member of the board and president of the Albuquerque Petroleum Club, the Mercedes-Benz Club of New Mexico, and the Executives Association of Greater Albuquerque. In the latter years of his life he found a special companion in Joanna Worley, whom he loved dearly. Of all his accomplishments, his proudest moment was the birth of his daughter, Velma Harrison Nelson. He spent his life investing time, wisdom, and love in his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Throughout his life he remained a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and a committed patriarch to his family. He is remembered for his humility, kindness, selflessness, and incredible sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Carraway Harrison and is survived by his daughter Velma Nelson and husband Robert Nelson; his grandson R. Mark Nelson, Jr.; granddaughter Cloyce Elizabeth Nelson; close friend Joanna Worley, all of Albuquerque; and his brother Bill D. Harrison of Arizona.
