Claudine Cowan

d. October 21, 2021

Claudine Cowan was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother (Nana). She passed away on October 21, 2021 after a brief illness at the age of 86. Claudine was born in Twisp, Washington. She attended school in Washington and worked after high school at a department store and at Dunn & Bradstreet. Claudine was roller skating with friends one evening when she met Lawrence "Bud" Cowan who was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. It wasn't long before she was in love with this dark haired, dark eyed man, as she referred to him when telling us about it. They married on July 11, 1954 and moved to Albuquerque, where Bud was from, shortly after he was discharged. Within a few years they had three daughters. About nine years later they added a son and then another daughter.

Claudine was a homemaker and very involved with her kid's schools and 4-H Club, teaching leathercraft and other skills. She also supported her husband as a bookkeeper in his business ventures, including an appliance repair shop and then finally opening New Mexico Motorcycle Salvage in 1971. They owned an operated the motorcycle business together for over 30 years.

Claudine was a tiny person but was fierce in taking care of her family and herself. She has been described as Spunky. She garnered respect in her many roles and from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. You didn't want to cross momma! It only took that look from her to know you were in trouble. So many of her children's friends called her mom and she was proud of that. She was fun, laughed easily and touched so many people during her long life. She enjoyed a good party! Her life was devoted to helping her husband and family achieve their dreams. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church

Claudine is preceded in death by her husband, Bud Cowan; daughter, Michelle Newlan; and great granddaughter, Jewelisiana Sandoval; her parents Claude and Helen Prewitt, brothers Ronald, Marvin and Lyle Prewitt, sisters Velma Wood and Betty Onstead.

Claudine is survived by her brother, Gary Prewitt; her daughters, Zoanne Kabriel, Roxanne Holloway, Laura Sandoval; and her son, Monty Cowan; her grandchildren Helmut Oslo, Jason Crouch, Lucas Crouch, Trudy Handley, Jonathan Vallez, Deloriana Sandoval, Maria Sandoval, Christina Sandoval, Mariah Maldonado and Nathan Cowan; great-grandchildren Logan Handley, Mandi Lopez, Jeremiah Sandoval, Jerry Montoya, Zeke and Zanen Maldonado; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Claudine was beloved by many and will be sorely missed.
