Clarissa Jane Harker Clark, "Janie", age 81, of Rio Rancho, NM was guided by the angels and received in the arms of the Lord Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
Janie is survived by her daughters, Clarissa Clark (Lissa) and Kelcy Clark; brother, Albert C. Harker and wife, Rev. Peg Harker; and nieces and nephews she lovingly adored.
Janie was born in Marion, Indiana to Albert and Helen Harker and was known as "the apple of her daddy's eye!" After graduating from Marion High School, she studied at Sullins College for Women and received an associate degree in Piano Performance. Janie continued her education at Indiana University, pledging the Delta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduating with a Bachelor of Music Education. It was during her time at IU that she met and married the love of her life, John Miller Clark on August 3rd, 1963. Janie was an extremely talented educator, choreographer, producer, and director of music and touched the lives of so many in the community. Janie and John were a powerhouse team, working side by side to produce outstanding productions at First United Methodist Church, Monte Vista Christian Church, Cliff's Amusement Park, UNM, Press Club Grid Iron shows and numerous elementary productions and high school show choirs throughout New Mexico. In her early years at IU, Janie founded the Kappa Pickers and started the first GREEK SING competition that took off nationwide! Janie was a professional tennis player ranked 2nd in women's doubles in the Southwest, and was a devoted wife, mother, and faithful servant of God throughout her life.
She will be missed by all, but her memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. "Just shake your head yes."
A Memorial Celebration of Janie's life will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021, 1:00 p.m., at NewLife Church, 2701 American Rd. SE, Rio Rancho NM 87124.
