Age 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012. He was born in Danville, IL, and attended schools in Urbana, IL. Sandy attained a BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois. He served as a tank platoon leader and company commander in WWII. He married Hildred Markland of Miles City, MT in 1945. He is survived by Hildred, his wife of 67 years; sons, Stephen C. Sandy with Tami Foor of Tularosa, NM and Scott J. and Melody Sandy of Roswell, NM; and grandchildren, Marcus and wife Aja Sandy, Savannah Sandy, Keara Sandy, and Taylor Sandy. Sandy was employed by Sandia National Labs for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the NM Army National Guard for many years, and retired from the US Army Reserve in 1980, as a Colonel. He was active for many years in the AUSA, and was a past president of the Albuquerque Chapter. Sandy was a member of the Sombre del Monte Christian Church. Private family services will be held. His cremated remains will be placed at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
