Christine Polansky

March 18, 1948 — January 5, 2024

Christine Polansky, 75, of Albuquerque, passed away on January 5th, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed.

Chris was born on March 18th, 1948 in Santa Cruz, CA, the oldest of seven siblings, to Peter and Kathleen Conforti.

In 1973, Chris and her family moved to Albuquerque from Los Angeles, a move she said she never regretted. She embraced New Mexico, except for the chile, which was just too hot for the native Californian.

After working as an insurance agent for many years, Chris decided to change course and pursue one of her passions, art history. In 1997, after more than 30 years out of school, she enrolled at the University of New Mexico. She received her bachelors degree in Art History in 2000. Chris's detailed nature landed her a job as the Office Administrator of the UNM Alumni Association, the first of several administrative jobs at UNM. Her final position before retirement was the Administrator of the Music Department at UNM, which she said was her favorite job.

She is survived by her two sons, David (Amy) and Brian. Chris loved to travel and she took several trips with her sons, including one to Italy to visit the birthplace of her father. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy (Michael), and her brothers, Phil (Terri), John (Lisa), and Tom (Kristin).

Chris had an extensive group of close friends whom she loved and who loved her. She had an active social life that included going to plays and musicals, playing in a Canasta group, and sharing food and love with her "Dinner Divas". Chris loved happy hours with her friends and sons and was known to enjoy a blue margarita from time to time. She also actively volunteered for several different organizations throughout her life.

She stayed physically active until the end of her life, attending yoga and Zumba classes along with taking long walks.

Chris loved cats and over the last decade adopted several older ones who would otherwise not have found a loving home.

The family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
