Charles Wayne Williams, (Chuck), 90, of Albuquerque, went to be with our Lord on Monday, October 26, 2015 at home with friends and family surrounding him.
Charles Wayne Williams was born March 2, 1925 in Gadsden, TN. He was the only son of Ralph Fred Williams and Virginia Spears Williams, preceded by Robin B. Williams. He is survived by his sister, Patsy Jo Briggs from Tuscaloosa, AL; his three children, son Charles W. Williams II, son Grant S. Williams and wife Tracy Williams and grandson, Zachary Williams and daughter, Sarah Invicta Williams, all from Albuquerque, NM. He leaves behind his devoted and loving partner Jane Barbara Mahon of 17 years.
Chuck was raised in Humboldt, TN and graduated from Humboldt High School, where he was President of the student body, Valedictorian of his senior class and Tennessee Boys State Representative.
Soon after graduation, he volunteered and served in the United States Navy where he attained the rank of Lieutenant serving until the end of WWII. After completion of his military duties, Chuck entered the University of New Mexico on the GI Bill and received a BA degree in Journalism in 1949. Impressed with the climate and the potential rapid growth of the area, Chuck elected to remain in Albuquerque and begin his career as a real estate professional. In 1950 he received his Brokers license which he maintained to this day. At that time he started Star Realty which changed to Charles Williams Corporation Realtors in 1955 to present day. In 1956 he received Albuquerque Realtor of the year and in 1963 Chuck was voted NM State Realtor of the year. Chuck was President of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors 1956 and 1957, and served as President of the NM State Board of Realtors in 1964. He was the cofounder of the Southwest multiple listings Service (GAAR-Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors). From the 1950s through the 1970's, Chuck was a leading residential Real Estate Firm in Albuquerque turning those successes in the 80's to the present day in Commercial Real Estate and Development. Through the years, Charles Williams Corporation continues its legacy of making significant contributions to the city and state alike.
A man of the community, Chuck served from 1966-69 as Bernalillo County Commissioner. Chuck served on the board of Citizens/Western Bank (currently BBVA Compass) from 1977 to present.
Chuck was a man of nature, he respected and appreciated the open spaces of New Mexico. When he's not at the office, you'll see him on his tractor, bailing hay at his home in Corrales, or riding the fence line at his X Mill Iron Ranch.
Chuck was a true Renaissance man, a Country gentleman and a widely traveled man. He "Ran with the Bulls" in Pamplona Spain and sailed the Greek Blades in the 1980's. Chuck also supported the arts and all things equestrian; including fox hunting, cowboy polo, owning race horses as well as show jumpers. Chucks competitive spirit in business was equaled only by his passion for fox hunting. Many of his travels involved fox hunting taking him all over the United States, England and to one of his favorite places, Ireland. Chuck was the "Master of Hounds" from 1977 to 1986 for the Juan Thomas Hounds.
Chuck Williams was the measure to which standards of Great Men were created... He will be sorely missed...
