The world has lost a true gem; a lover of life, knowledge in an instant, distinct sense of humor and a true friend. Charles Love Mullins V, A.K.A Chuck, Kayo, Dad, Pops and Chuck LV, passed through the threshold of his life on Earth into a new life of peace on November 26, 2017, He is out of the terrors of Parkinson’s disease and dementia with lewy bodies, finally released, and Chuck is free. Born to Captain Charles Love Mullins IV and Frances Helen McLean Mullins on June 13, 1942 in Tallahassee, Florida. Chuck’s father was killed in an airplane crash during a thunderstorm on his way back to his duty station at Hubert Field, Kansas. He has been home to greet his newborn son, James, Chuck was two. A few years went by and Chuck had a new father, Lt. Col. Francis Joseph Myers. Chuck’s siblings include; James Mullins (Carolynn) of Panama City Beach, FL, son, Keith Mullins; Frank Myers (Mary Elizabeth) of Williamsport, PA; son, Joseph Patrick Myers of Olympia, WA; Debora Lundberg (Pete) of Marysville, WA; children, Ryan, Nathan and Briana; Maureen Highsmith (Curt) of Lacey, WA; daughter, of Sara; his dear aunt Rita of Peacedale, RI; cousins, Kathy Pollock and Doug. Chuck’s family lived throughout the U.S. and also Japan. He graduated from High School in 1960 from Fateville H.S. in Fateville, NC where his dad was serving with the 101st Airborne Division. Chuck earned his B.S. in political science and history from Austin State University in Clarksville, TN. After graduating from college he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served 4 years. He became an Aircraft Maintenance Officer and as a second lieutenant was summoned to Vietnam in 1969. After her returned he was assigned to Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, NM in 1970. There he met his true love, Charlotte Kenyon and they were married in June of 1971. His military obligation being completed, he separated as a captain and he and his lovely bride set forth for a new adventure in Seattle, WA. He pursued his degree in Fisheries Biology at the University of Washington, which he completed in 1975. While in Seattle Chuck had the grand opportunity to work for National Marine Fisheries and troll the open seas as an American observer on Japanese and Russian fishing vessels. He also worked as a Washington State Game Warden and was employed with the Army Corp. of Engineers who led him to Albuquerque, NM, soon after he became a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service until retirement. Never has there been a person who loved their job more than Chuck. He was with the Riparian Team (Region 2) Ecological Services State Office and Partners for Wildlife. Chuck served as an Air Force Reservist at Hill A.F.B. and also as a recruiter Air Force Academy. He rose to the rank of LT. Colonel. Sadly, in 2003 just looking forward to retirement he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, likely due to be contaminated by the chemical Agent Orange during his time in Vietnam. Along with Parkinson’s came dementia with lewy bodies and Macular Degeneration. Chuck loved the banjo, wildlife conservation, environmental protection, eating slow, the T.V. show “Face the Nation”, Sunday football, airplanes, his work, his dog, Dazie and most of all he loved his girls. Chuck is survived by his one daughter, Marla Suzanne King and one granddaughter, Autumn Sage Scott (Royal). We will love and miss him forever. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Westside. In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Chuck’s name to the New Mexico Wildlife Federation www.nmwildlife.org or the Rio Grande Nature Center www.rgnc.org.
