Charles McKinnis, 87, beloved son, husband, father, step-father, grandfather (Opa), and father-in-law, was called to heaven on May 16, 2024. He entered this world on January 23, 1937, in Lamar, Colorado, born to Harvey and Grace McKinnis.
He is survived by his spouse, Gloria Clift of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son David McKinnis of Littleton, Colorado; daughter Laura (Robert) Duerr of Arvada, Colorado; daughter Kimberly (Bryan) Noland of Palisade, Colorado; daughter Dawn McKinnis of Lakewood, Colorado; daughter Kelly McKinnis of Gunnison, Colorado; granddaughter Ashley (Steve) Shearer of Palisade, Colorado; grandson Max Noland of Palisade, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his step-daughter Kimberly McKinnis, and his daughter-in-law Tamara McKinnis.
Charles, or as most people knew him, Chuck, served in the Army from 1959 to 1961 in Pinebluff, Arkansas. Chuck attended Colorado School of Mines, graduating in 1959. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Refining Engineering and kept in contact with his graduating class and brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. After serving in the Army, Chuck worked at several financial institutions in the Denver metro area before starting his lifelong career with IBM in 1965. He worked for IBM on various projects, including development of the OS/2 operating system and a four-year stint in Germany until his early retirement in 1991. Chuck married his beautiful wife Gloria in 1991, and for 33 years, his life took on a whole new journey with her. He and Gloria were very active in their church, worked in short time missions in Africa, Central and South America, and were very devoted to the work of God. Chuck was an elder at his church for many years and was on the board of directors at Bethal. Chuck believed in the lord Jesus Christ.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 5th at 2:00 PM at The Community Church of the Sandias, and Chuck will be laid to rest alongside his parents on Saturday, June 8th at 10:30 am in Springfield, Colorado.
