Charles Matthew "Charlie" Jenkins

October 31, 1937 — April 11, 2015

Known to his friends as Charlie, he was born and raised in Girard, Georgia. He attended Georgia Teachers College, and moved to New Mexico in the late 1950s, where he served in the New Mexico National Guard at Fort Bliss. In the early 1960s, he met and married the love of his life, Judy Carter, and they raised their family in Albuquerque. Together, they worked tirelessly to support their children, putting them through St. Therese Catholic School, St. Pius X High School, the University of New Mexico, and CNM. For more than 40 years, Charlie was a dedicated parishioner of St. Therese Catholic Church, and he joined St. Thomas Aquinas parish as well after moving to Rio Rancho. He worked at Sandia National Laboratory for more than 40 years, retiring as an electronic engineer to care for his mother who had Alzheimer's disease. Charlie and Judy took care of her in their home for six years until she passed - another testament to the depth of their love and devotion to family. Charlie bravely battled blood cancer for almost three years, but ultimately succumbed to the disease. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family on his 51st wedding anniversary. A truly kind and loving father, husband, and friend, he will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, John, James, Jerome, and Jean; his daughters-in-law, Carrie and Kari; and his grandchildren, Angela, Ariana, Eden, Jude, and Noah. His Rosary will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church, 300 Mildred Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. Mass will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m., also at St. Therese. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery will follow the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial offerings be made to St. Therese Catholic School in Albuquerque, www.stthereseschoolabq.org , or to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in Rio Rancho, www.stthomasaquinasschool.org .
