Charles William Edelman, age 72, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Natsuko Edelman; children, Miki Edelman and Betty Naomi Leake and husband, Vernon; grandchildren, Madison Leake (16), Garrett Leake (7), and Grant Leake (3); and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bill Spencer. Charles was born in Bowling Green, KY. He graduated from Sandia High School in 1959 and began his service in the U.S. Navy that same year. He finished his military career serving in the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge, he graduated from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan and returned to Albuquerque in 1970 where he obtained his Master's degree at UNM Anderson School of Business. He became an instructor at TVI and was there for over 20 years retiring in 1996 as the Associate Dean for the Business School. He also taught at the University of Phoenix where he served as an Academic Advisor and Instructor of Economics. Charles was an avid western history scholar and published a book about The Birdcage Theatre in Tombstone, AZ. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 22, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Charles Edelman Scholarship Fund to sponsor deserving students. Donations can be sent to any New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union.
