Dave Miller

June 28, 1954 — February 25, 2025

Charles David "Chuck" Miller, 70, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque after an extended battle with cancer. Dave was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and moved to Albuquerque with his family at the age of three.

Dave's immeasurable love for his family, his faith, courage, positive attitude and zest for life gave him the strength to fight an ongoing battle not only with cancer, but congestive heart failure as well as a number of other illnesses over a period of thirty one years. Despite the ongoing battle, Dave never complained, and no one could tell by talking to him that his life was anything but wonderful.

Dave attended Valley High School and graduated from the University of New Mexico. While attending UNM he met his wife, Pati, and was married for almost forty eight years before his passing.

After a long career in the automobile business, Dave retired and became a school crossing guard. "Crossing Guard Dave," as the children at his assigned schools called him, found great joy in serving his community by protecting children going to and from school. Dave loved to chat with the children while they waited to cross, and because of his kind and goofy nature he was often the recipient of hand made cards and pictures, various goodies, princess bubble wands and lots of high fives.

Dave was passionate in all of his endeavors, and put his whole heart into every pursuit from his job to his children's school activities to cycling to music. He also enjoyed participating in various community organizations over the years including Civitan, Lion's Club and cub scouts. Dave loved to ride Albuquerque's bike trails, and taught himself to play the guitar, piano and harmonica in later life.

Dave was a lifelong advocate for social justice and women's rights. As a teen, he campaigned door to door with his mother to promote ERA and women's rights. He was a campaign volunteer in a presidential election while in college and later in three City of Albuquerque mayoral campaigns. In recent times he became an ardent political activist.

Dave is survived by his wife, Patricia Dungan Miller, daughter, Jessica Medrano, son, Jonathan Miller, daughter, Joanna Miller, granddaughter, Natalie Medrano, grandson, Andres Medrano, brother, Bruce Miller and wife, Debbie, nephews, Kyle and Sean Miller, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy B. Miller and Mary Jo Thompson Miller.
