On the evening of March 10, 2024, our beautiful Angel, Charisse Rene Cook passed away due to multiple health problems at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was 54 years old.
She was born January 5, 1970, in St. Luke Hospital in New York City to Willie Alston and Deborah Thompson.
She was a graduate of West Mesa High School in 1987. She received her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from New Mexico State University in 1991 and a Master's degree in 1992 from Webster University in Security Management. She married Larry Cook on August 15, 1998.
She started her correctional career in 1993 at Bernalillo County Detention Center. She retired as Deputy Chief, being the first African American female to achieve this title. She was the SWAT trainer for BCBD. She was a great athlete. She played soccer from age 8 to adulthood. She ran track in High School and College. She was a trainer and body builder. She coached youth soccer and track and field.
Charisse truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures of chatting with family and friends and spending time with niece and nephew.
She was loved by so many people. She had the uncanny ability to reach people in deep and positive ways. She was always helping and caring about other's needs, even from her hospital bed.
She is survived by her husband Larry; sons, Elijah and Jeremiah; mother, Deborah; brothers, George and David and two sisters. Her favorite aunties, Charlie and Miko of Albuquerque; and Aunt Betty of South Carolina; Uncles, Mont, Meto, and Rudy, and several cousins, nephews, and nieces. Her best friend from New York, Faye and her close college friends.
Family and friends, who lives Charisse touched, are invited to FRENCH - Westside Chapel on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., to reminisce, grieve, support and chat.
As a precious gift from our awesome creator, Charisse's life was embraced, treasured and celebrated.
