Lt. Colonel Cecil Augustus Lynn, Jr was called home to his eternal resting place on 11/25/2021, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Col. Lynn passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 80. A native Texan, Col. Lynn entered the world on 9/21/1941, to Annie Bell (Newton) and Cecil A. Lynn, Sr, who both preceded him in death.
Col. Lynn accepted Christ at an early age in Highbank, Texas and was an active member of various congregations throughout his life. Col. Lynn served as a Deacon and a Trustee at Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church and also taught Sunday School, Bible Study and participated in Bible Study Fellowship.
Awarded a Meritorious Service Award, Col Lynn. was a career officer in the United States Air Force, who retired in Albuquerque after more than 25 years of honorable service. Col. Lynn graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, then earned a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering from Prairie View A&M and later pursued a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from the University of New Mexico. Upon graduation from college, Col. Lynn went to officer training school at Lowry AFB in Colorado and was stationed in various bases in the United States and overseas. Col. Lynn was most at home with his brothers-at-arms and recruited many others into service. Col. Lynn was responsible for building many New Mexico armories with the Army National Guard. In "retirement," he pursued a career in real estate as both an investor and licensed broker at Lynn Realty.
Throughout his life, Col. Lynn was also an avid sports fan. He played a variety of sports, including football and softball, coached multiple sports including baseball, softball and basketball and closely followed a variety of professional and competitive sports. Through his company Weekender, Inc., Col. Lynn provided officiating trainings and also hosted various athletic tournaments and conferences throughout the state. In 2018, Col. Lynn was inducted into the New Mexico Officials Association (NMOA) Hall of Fame for his body of work, which included being a referee for various sports at the high school, collegiate and USA levels. Col. Lynn loved the Oakland Raiders, listening to Gospel music and eating at steak houses. He also enjoyed gardening, bowling, reading the paper and playing card games like Pinochle. Col. Lynn was a good Samaritan, who had a soft spot for animals and had a habit of rescuing strays of all kinds Col. Lynn was preceded in death by his sisters Jewel, Janice and Brenda and brothers Lew Gene and Milton. To cherish his memory, Col. Lynn leaves two daughters, Barbara and Denise of Albuquerque, New Mexico, his son Cecil III (Karen) and two grandchildren, Samantha and Cecil IV of Chandler, Arizona, his former spouse Eartha of Albuquerque, New Mexico, siblings Betty and Linda of Waco, Texas, Bobby of Killeen, Texas and sister-in-law Marva of Copperas Cove, Texas to cherish his memory. Col Lynn also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives, as well as an extensive network of friends and colleagues from around the world who will miss him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cecil A. Lynn, Jr. Memorial Scholarship that will support athletes through the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA). Checks supporting the scholarship should be made out to Cecil A. Lynn, Jr. Memorial Scholarship; the NMAA Foundation; 6600 Palomas Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. The family also plans to plant a tree in Montgomery Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Col. Lynn used to walk and run. The tree will be planted during the 2022 planting season and will be marked with a plaque through the city of Albuquerque Park Management (Memorial) Tribute Tree program to serve as a “growing and living symbol” of Col. Lynn’s life.
Service Announcement
Col. Lynn's services are scheduled to be held on Sunday, 01/02/2022 at Los Altos Christian Church, 11900 Haines Avenue, NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87112. The services will begin with the viewing/slideshow from 3:00-4:30 pm, directly followed by the Celebration of Life Services from 4:30-6:00 pm and the repast from 6:00-8:00 pm. The services will be livestreamed on the “LACC Abq Live” YouTube Channel. The burial will take place on Monday, 01/03/2022 at 10:30 am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM 87501. Please note that there will be no motorcade to Santa Fe. Those who wish to attend the burial will need to provide their own transportation, drive safely to Santa Fe and be lined up at the main entrance gate by 10:00 am to participate in the burial services.
