Cassandra M. Cochran

d. July 28, 2018

Cassandra M. (Baca) Cochran, 68, of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday July 28, 2018 with her husband of 46 years at her side.

Cassandra was born in 1950, at her parents’ home in Socorro NM; she was the daughter of the late George and Lorrie (Carabajal) Baca. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers George Baca Jr., and Charles Baca, and numerous other members of her large extended family. She is survived by her husband Allan Cochran, two sons Colin (Vanna) Cochran and Peter Cochran along with Peter’s significant other, Stasia Ploskonka, all of Albuquerque, her first grandchild due this coming fall, brothers Leroy (Barbara) Baca of Gallup NM, James (Celese) Baca of Eldorado at Santa Fe NM, sisters Arneille (Allan) Laird of Denver CO, Deborah (Glenn) Feerer of Homer AK and many, many other family and friends.

Cassandra graduated in 1967 from Socorro High School, was an organist for the Harwood United Methodist Church and had fond memories of growing up in her parents’ store, George’s Department Store, located on the southeast corner of Manzanares and Mecham on the Socorro Plaza. She was married in 1971 at the Harwood church to her husband, a 1970 graduate of NM Tech, and thereafter called Albuquerque home. In Albuquerque she worked for the Social Security Administration and the Post Office until 1978 when she then opened what became the first of three women’s fashion stores, Country Casuals, plus two women’s fashion shoe stores, Shooze. She retired in 2015. Cassandra liked to think of her businesses as a continuance of her time growing up and learning in her parents’ businesses and thoroughly enjoyed every facet of her own business. She absolutely adored her sons and lovingly spoke often of her hopes for them and of their accomplishments, she so wanted to hold her first grandchild, and she dearly cared for her many family members and friends.

Cassandra you will be greatly missed by all of us who loved you and May God grant her eternal peace.

Respectful of Cassandra’s wishes, a private service was held in the chapel at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque followed by her placement there at the mausoleum in her burial vault that looks out over her parents’ grave site by the praying hands monument.

The family asks that donations be made in Cassandra’s honor to the International Myeloma Foundation. To make a donation, visit www.myeloma.org and then click the blue Donate button.
