Carrie Lou Skolnick, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Saturday, June 25, 2016. Carrie was born September 25, 1922 in Fayette County, Georgia to Ira McCoy and Viola Massengale McCoy. She was reared in Davenport, Iowa, graduating from Davenport High School in 1940. In August1945, she married Larry Edwards. They and their two young children moved to Albuquerque in 1952. They were charter members of St. Luke Lutheran Church. Their third child was born in Albuquerque. Carrie worked at Kirtland Air Force Base as a secretary and editor, retiring in December of 1985. In September 1967, she married Saul Skolnick. For many years she was an avid duplicate bridge player, loved country music and growing roses. During her last few years, she surfed the internet, played solitaire on her computer and gin rummy with her daughter, and put together jigsaw puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings; and her husband, Saul. She is survived by her brother, Walt McCoy and wife, Barb of Falcon Heights, MN; her daughter, Barbara Exley and husband, Chuck of Albuquerque; sons, Steve Edwards and wife, Heidi of Fort Worth, TX; Timothy Edwards of Florissant, CO, and stepson, Julian Skolnick of Oakland, CA. Also surviving are grandchildren, Steven, Kendra, Ashley and Gabriel; and five great-grandchildren. Carrie's family would like to thank A Love for Life assisted living, Dr. Francesco Standoli and Dr. Jane Hanson for caring for her during the past 4-1/2 years. They also thank the staff at Lovelace Hospital and Gentiva Hospice for their care during her last weeks. A Memorial Service for Carrie will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul Blvd. N.E. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke.
