Carolynn, the daughter of the late Arthur and Eloda Nelson, was born October 16, 1951 in Jacksonville, FL. As a child she lived in many places, including Japan and Hawaii, before settling in Albuquerque in 1963. She graduated from Del Norte High School and the University of New Mexico and, pursuing additional education, earned a MS degree from the University of California San Diego and a doctorate degree from Penn State University. She returned to Albuquerque and worked as a research scientist at Sandia National Laboratories for a number of years prior to pursuing her passion for teaching at John Baker Elementary School.

Carolynn is survived by her husband of nearly 35 years, Stephen Montgomery; her children, Scott Montgomery and Sara Montgomery, all living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is also survived by a brother, John Nelson of Rainier, WA; a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Robert Nelson of San Francisco, CA.

Carolynn enjoyed family, music, reading, knitting, travel, gardening, and worked as a volunteer at Animal Humane of New Mexico. She was a devoted member of her church, participating in choir, as a worship assistant, and a member of the preschool board. Her family is grateful for the love she shared with us. We also thank her care providers at the Presbyterian Cancer Center for many years of treatment and Presbyterian Hospice for keeping her as comfortable as possible prior to her passing into the everlasting care of her Lord.
