Carolyn Louise (Crowder) Mohoric

March 21, 1925 — July 4, 2021

Carolyn Louise Crowder joined her husband/soulmate, Frank; her beloved son, Scott; sister, Kay; and other departed family and friends to celebrate her end of life and beginning of a new one on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Born near Idaho Falls, Carolyn shared her birthday with the first day of Spring on Saturday, March 21, 1925. Welcomed by her mom and dad, Eda and Bill, school teachers who ran a one room rural school house, Carolyn helped her farming families and grandparents settle the area. With her younger sister, Kay the family relocated to Salt Lake where her dad opened an insurance agency, and her mom became a seamstress. Carolyn worked her way through high school and college in ZCMI department store as a fitter and wedding planner.

Carolyn and Kay grew up loving skiing in the beautiful mountains around Salt Lake. Tennis became a passion at age 8, and until her passing at 96. She still sang many of the acappella songs learned in her Kappa college sorority quartet at The University of Utah. She was chosen "Miss Utah", played in many piano recitals, and could bang out a vibrant boogie woogie. Graduating college as a dietitian, she met Frank at a University of Utah college dance. The two were engaged prior to sending him off in the army to fight in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. When they married after the war and moved to Pueblo, Colorado, she birthed Michael and Scott before resettling in Albuquerque for Frank's sales work at the Yellow Pages. There Frank and Carolyn added Mark and Shawne to the family.

Carolyn was active in all her children's lives involving them in music and athletics. In the mid-sixties, Carolyn produced the live local radio show "The Breakfast Club" with TV personality Stretch "Captain Billy" Scherer. Serving in the Junior League of Albuquerque, she helped produce many charities, fund raising, and fashion events and some of the first NM Arts and Crafts Fairs with friend and artist, Betty Sabo. She and Frank were avid tennis players and, with a small group of friends, formed the Tennis Club of Albuquerque. She loved and remained close to her tennis community, playing often. She and her partner won the Southwest Regional Championship Tennis Tournament for Women's Doubles 50 and over. Carolyn played tennis at the TCA until she was 92.

She made friends with everyone she met, and the family is indebted to her caregiver and close friend Corrine, whom she loved and who helped her transition to the afterlife. The family also wishes to thank neighbor, Dr. Bruce Hinrichs, who brought joy, friendship and comfort to both Carolyn and Frank, and who became a dear companion to all the family.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Shawne, Michael, and Mark and spouses, Steve Zack, Sheila Campeau, Karen Mohoric, and Peggy Mohoric; her grandchildren, Shaune, Mike, Tommy, Nicholas, Marcos, and Pancho and their spouses, Charlie Lopez, Valentina Golub-Mohoric, Megan Mohoric, and Heidi Mohoric; and four great-grandchildren, Arturo Vargas in Placitas, NM, Jeronimo, Marcelo, and Marian Mohoric in Mexico.

A celebration of her life for family and friends will be announced later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Friends of the Bosque Apache NWR, or Southwest Tennis Foundation.
