Carolyn Hines-Gunn

December 8, 1939 — February 13, 2025

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Carolyn Jean Hines Gunn (Jeannie), age 85, passed away on February 13, 2025. She is survived by her son, Dean; stepdaughter, Kim; grandson, Greggor; and step-grandchildren, Marisa and William. Jeannie was born at the Old St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and lived in Albuquerque her entire life. She attended Jefferson Junior High School and Albuquerque High School. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of New Mexico (UNM), obtaining her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1961. Jeannie was a member of Job's Daughters, and the Pi Beta Phi sorority. After college graduation, she began teaching 3rd grade at Montgomery Elementary School until she took a year off to give birth and care for her son, Dean. She then returned to teaching 2nd grade at Sombra del Monte Elementary School for the next 35 years until retirement. During her years teaching, she loved to bowl and was the treasurer for a teacher's bowling league for over 15 years. She also bowled a perfect 300 game, something none of her peers achieved during that time.

After retirement, Jeannie kept busy as an active volunteer supporting the UNM Pi Beta Phi sorority for many years, helping young women to acquire academic scholarships. She was also a very active member of a local chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood until she passed. In addition, she was very active in the UNM Lobo Club, where she worked tirelessly to support women's athletics. Jeannie loved kitty cats and especially her "mountains;" she would be sure to sit outside watching the Sandia (Watermelon) Mountains during the myriad, magical New Mexico sunsets. She also loved New Mexican food, especially red chili enchiladas. Jeannie was a beloved wife, mom, and grandmother, and when she chose to be part of something, she always gave it her all. She and her infectious giggle will be missed... We love you!
