Carolyn Greason Bryan, age 89, of Rio Rancho, NM, formerly of Falmouth, Massachusetts, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, October 2, 2021. She was born in 1932 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Kenneth and Ruth Greason. She grew up in Watertown, CT, where she met her husband at dancing school.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Wilfred Bryan, of Rio Rancho, NM; her brother, Kenneth Greason of Massachusetts; her son, Richard Bryan and his wife, Francie Chew of Massachusetts; son, Phil Bryan and his wife, Kathy Bryan; and daughter, Cyndi Apodaca and husband, Jesus Apodaca; five grandchildren, Laura Bryan, Peter Bryan, Michael and his wife, Mariah Apodaca, Daniel Apodaca and David Apodaca.
She made books her life, working as a librarian in both the public and high school libraries in Falmouth, MA. In retirement she volunteered her time at the library in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Even when she was not working, she was a voracious reader, consuming many books every week. She was a skilled wood and fabric craftsman and always had a project. Her creations include furniture, baskets, leather crafts, sails for the family sailboat, sensory blankets for special needs students, sweaters and hats, embroidery, and quilts for various occasions.
She was an active musician, playing piano for family gatherings and clarinet with the Town Bands in Falmouth, MA and Rio Rancho, NM. She and her husband sang with the Congregational Church choir in Falmouth, MA, where she also played with the hand bell choir. She and her husband traveled the world together, partnering on his geological research expeditions.
She and her husband enjoyed the great outdoors and stayed active well into later years hiking and skiing all across the mountains of the Southwest. Together they were actively involved in numerous nature conservancy efforts, including the Friends of the Coronado Monument in New Mexico.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., FRENCH - Westside.
