Carol Williams Sallee

d. September 22, 2017

Carol Williams Sallee passed away on September 22, 2017 in her sleep surrounded by family. Born August 3, 1923, 11 miles south of Grady, NM, Carol grew up in Fort Sumner and Capitan. Carol is survived by her sister, Suzy Greene and brother-in-law, Wally; four sons, Alvin, David, Steven, and Brian and their wives; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Carol was known as Ms. Lobo, named outstanding alum in 1969. She graduated from the University of New Mexico with a B.A. in accounting in 1944 and in 1951 was the first woman awarded an MBA. She served as the associate dean of women, sponsor of Alpha Delta Pi, and later as accountant for the Credit Union and at the Cancer Center. She was inducted into the UNM Anderson School of Management Hall of Fame in 2015. An avid basketball fan, she was a men’s and women’s season ticket holder for 75 years.

She was an active member of the Monte Vista Christian Church since 1936, serving in many roles including the first woman chair of the board.

She volunteered unselfishly with a number of social agencies, including the Phillips Chapel. She donated so much blood a new level of recognition was developed just for her. Traveling extensively, she took her desire for knowledge to over 60 countries and six continents.

Carol lived a vigorous life at Manzano del Sol for 12 years, often driving residents to appointments, serving on committees, exercising and making sure everyone got a birthday card.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Monte Vista Christian Church, the Storehouse, or a charity of your choice.
