Carol Lee Marie (Roh) Dorwart

Carol Lee left this earth to dance for eternity in her Clint's arms on June 15, 2022, nine months after his passing and 64 glorious years together. Born to Mary (Tomek) and Albin Roh in Bruno, Nebraska (the "Bohemian Alps") on September 5, 1935, she grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from Saint Mary's High School. Carol earned her bachelor's degree in education from the College of Saint Mary, an all-women's college, in 1957. Carol loved to entertain and was an amazing planner. During college she threw a "coketail" party. Clint went with a friend who knew Carol, and this is where their love began. They were married on December 29, 1956, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Omaha, the beginning of their beautiful family with their four children. They made homes in Alabama, Nebraska, Colorado and then found "their place" in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1967.

Carol was a devout Catholic. After suffering a debilitating stroke 10 years ago, she beamed with faith, perseverance and heartfelt gratitude for those who cared for her through the decade. Carol was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation where she was a Marianite and a Lay Canossian. She visited the homebound and provided communion for them. Later, others did the same for Carol and she looked forward to this fellowship and comfort.

Carol was a born educator and a talented musician. She shared these gifts at church as a musical director, vocalist, pianist, and organist. She played at many family weddings. A beautiful piano was always a centerpiece in the home. After owning pharmacies in Lexington, Nebraska with Clint, they moved to Albuquerque where Carol taught piano in her home studio for many years. After the children were grown, Carol returned to school for her master's degrees in education and educational administration. In Albuquerque, Carol taught at Garfield Middle School, was the assistant principal at Harrison Middle School, worked on curriculum development at the Montgomery Complex and the majority of her career was as the principal at Sombra Del Monte Elementary School. After retiring, Carol was the interim principal at Georgia O'Keefe and San Antonito Elementary Schools. She was chair of the personnel committee of the GC at the inception of East Mountain High School. She loved being an educator, valued the collegiality of others, and treasured working with the youth and her staff.

Carol's heart was where the home was. She was a multitasker before it was even a word. Later she was referred to as "zoom-zoom" by Clint, her children, and grandchildren. Cooking delicious meals, keeping an immaculate home, supporting her children's education, and sewing stylish outfits, especially for daughters Mary Cheryl and Therese. She was always on the go, getting her children to numerous activities, gardening, participating in her important volunteer interests, and serving her community. She was a PTA president at John Baker Elementary (formerly Aspen Elementary) and Co-president with Clint of the Eldorado High School Football Booster Club.

Carol helped design a couple of their homes and thrived in that creativity. Their last home in Sandia Park was a beautiful retreat meticulously built by their son, Tony. This enjoyment of design carried over to shopping for and decorating model homes for her son, Jeff. Carol loved to shop. When traveling abroad, she always made sure to take an extra suitcase as she would buy gifts for her children and grandchildren. There were many road trips to visit family in addition to tent, pop-up trailer, and 5th wheel adventures. In retirement she and Clint enjoyed traveling the United States and abroad to Europe, Ireland, and the South Pacific.

Carol and Clint's 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated in Albuquerque on December 29, 2006. An epic snowstorm began and a three-day-long blizzard with 24 inches of snow, shut down the city, the state, and the airport. The big, beautiful celebration turned into an extended reunion as those who traveled to Albuquerque couldn't leave. Carol and the family couldn't have planned a more perfect event. It's one that topped the charts. Carol arranged many family/friend celebrations, one of which was for Clint's 70th birthday. At his big party, Carol surprised him with a bagpiper and presented Clint with a gift to the South Pacific. Carol got to go too.

Carol's survivors include her adoring children Mary Cheryl Dorwart (Norman Root) of Cedar Park, TX; Jeff Dorwart (Heather) of Placitas, NM, Therese Dorwart (Dave DeMill) of Albuquerque, NM; and Clinton A. "Tony" Dorwart (Tammy) of Cedar Crest, NM. Grandchildren Jimmy Root (Ashley Olson) of Austin, TX; Anthony Cabrera of Oklahoma City, OK; Marie Cabrera of Rio Rancho, NM; Justin Dorwart (Mikayla Meyers) of Edgewood, NM; and Maggie Root Krivensky (Daniel) of Christiansted, St. Croix, USVI. Her special great-grandsons, Jamison Root, Garrett Root, and Ryder Dorwart; step-granddaughters Kinsey Durham-Grace (Jordan Grace) and son, Crew and Rachel Durham (Christian Wigert) and son, Erik. Brother Clete Roh of Rockville, MD; sister-in-law, Faye Dorwart of Ft. Collins, CO; brother-in-law, JD Dorwart of Greeley, CO; and many nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Albin Roh, husband Clint Dorwart, sisters-in-law Bev Roh, Pat Dellenbach, Margaret (Peg) Peetz and Mary Dorwart; brothers-in-law Richard (Dick) Dellenbach, Kenneth Peetz and Jerry Dorwart; nephews Philip and Daniel Peetz.

Carol's family will always be grateful to all of the wonderful caregivers throughout the years, especially those at Morningstar and Beehive Assisted Living facilities who cared for her with such kindness. The family loves Carol's friend, Nita, a compassionate, caring angel, who was at Carol's side for years. The family owes a debt of gratitude and love to long-time family friend and physician Suzanne Pinon, MD who cared for Carol during her later years going above and beyond during her last days. A heart felt thank you to nurse Ann and others at Roadrunner Hospice who cared for Carol.

A Rosary will take place at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at French-Wyoming, with visitation starting at 5:00 pm. A mass will be celebrated at 8:30 am on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Our Lady of the Annunciation, 2621 Vermont St. NE. Following will be her interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery is at 1:30pm.
