Carol Bowman

January 3, 1944 — August 21, 2022

Carol Ann J. Bowman, age 78 of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2022. She was born on January 3,1944 in Waxahachie, TX to John B and Ann Jenkins and was raised for the majority of her childhood in Corsicana, TX before moving to Dallas, TX at 13 years old with her family and then to Albuquerque a year later. In January of 1963, while attending American River College in Sacramento, California, Carol met Carl Adams and after dating for several months they married September 28th of the same year in Galt, California. She, Carl, and their four children lived in several states before finally settling in Albuquerque in the summer of 1981, where she and Carl parted ways in 1987 after 24 years of marriage.

She and Carl developed a close friendship the last 20 years of her life and would often have long talks on the phone and spend holidays together with their children.

Education was always important to Carol. She held a Bachelor's degree in English literature and philosophy from the University of New Mexico, a Master's degree in Psychology from California State University, and a PhD in Communications from the University of New Mexico. With these degrees, she opened her own family therapy practice, a business she kept for 34 years.

Like her mother, Carol had several creative talents and took up hobbies such as crochet, quilting, and jewelry making. She also loved to cook. Her family fondly remembers the meals she would make for them, some favorites being mac 'n' cheese made from scratch and her cheesecake. Her father would also frequently request she make her pound cake for him on his birthday. Carol was also an avid reader and a member of a book club, often using books to expand her world and mind.

Family was very important to Carol. She would often host birthdays and other celebrations at her house. Gifts were often an important part of the celebrations, and she was a wonderful gift-giver. When they were young, she would create the most wonderful stockings at Christmas for her children and the presents were always beautifully wrapped, a skill she learned from her mother.

Carol was thoughtful and generous, and she will be missed greatly. She is survived by her four children, Robin Rogers and her husband, Richard, Nathan Adams and his wife, Cassandra, Sarah Calibaba, and Joseph Adams and his wife Danelle; grandchildren, Leah Martinez, Eric Rogers, Lindsey Trujillo, Emily Rogers, Kyra Nail, Laurell Keen, Sofia and Nicco Bartoloni Saint Omer, and Ivy Schaffer; great-grandchildren Mary Ann and Rebecca Martinez; sister, Kathy Jenkins; niece, Annette Schowers, and great-niece Morgann Schowers-Cornell. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Jenkins, her uncle, Joe Jenkins, and her wonderful cat, Toby.

The family would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Hospice of New Mexico, Nicole, Eladia, Misty, Dottie and Elena for their wonderful and compassionate care. A special thank you to Night and Gale Assisted Living, Kathleen, Patty, Lily, Airel, Eva, Sandra and Carrie for their loving, gentle and compassionate care. Services will be held Monday, September 26,2022 at 10:00am at the FRENCH-Wyoming.
