Carlota Eichwald

June 20, 1928 — August 17, 2015

Carlota Eichwald, 87, of Cuba, and most recently Albuquerque, surrounded by her family, was called to her eternal resting place into the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, on Monday, August 17, 2015. She was born on June 20, 1928 to Juan and Eufemia Duran Garcia of La Jara, New Mexico. Carlota married the love of her life Augustin Eichwald, and they were married for thirty-one years upon his death, on April 28, 1980. From this union they were blessed with seven children, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Carlota was preceded in death by her husband, Augustin; parents, Juan and Eufemia Garcia; her parents-in-law, Augustin Aaron and Isabel Eichwald; brothers, Donald (Lano) and Joe Garcia; and sisters, Rafelita Chacon and Lugarda Sosa. Carlota is survived by her children, Elaine Shoman, son, Travis, Arthur and wife, Kerri Eichwald, George and wife, Antonette Eichwald, sons, Augustin and Nicolas, Ken and wife, Sandra Eichwald, sons; Isiah, Karl and Jason, Ethel Maharg and husband, Dean, children Troy Maharg, Augusta West, Dena Maes and husband, Fermin, Raymond and wife, Gina Eichwald, children, Jenna Bachicha and husband, Che and Jarrod, Carla Lightfoot and husband , Lee, son, Ty and wife, Stephanie Lee. Her surviving great-grandchildren are Nyssa Maharg, Taj and Zylas Lee, Layne West, and Justin, Leandro, and Reyes Maes. She is also survived by her brother, Danny and wife, Rita Garcia; sisters-in-law, Pita (Joe) Garcia and Maria (Lano) Garcia; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Carlota was an avid gardener and truly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She worked in numerous cafes as a cook and waitress in Cuba as well as a cook at the Immaculate Conception School, but her pride and joy was being a wife and mother. Carlota was also an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church where she volunteered numerous hours and later in life volunteered at various orphanages in Mexico. Carlota was loved by all and will be greatly missed as she profoundly impacted countless lives. The family offers a special note of thanks to Carla and Lee Lightfoot for making the last five years of her life a happier place and Melody and Alisha Lucero who cared for our mother, as we could not have made this journey without all your kindness, generosity, love, help, and support. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2015, followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., also at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial to follow at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Cuba.
