Carlos Amarante Mascareñas went peacefully to heaven on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the age of 94. Carlos is survived by his wife Molly, whom he shared his life and love for 75 years; daughter, Dolores (husband, Paul); son, Carlos (wife, Sheila); grandson, Nicklaus (wife, Sylvia); great-grandsons, Tanner, Shane (wife, Kaitlyn), and Jesse Amarante (his buddy); brother, Robert Mascareñas; stepbrother, Tony Reales; sister-in-law, Ramona Mascareñas; and many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Camilita Mascareñas; sisters, Sarah Velarde, Lucy Mascareñas, Virginia Thrap, and Regina Mascareñas; brothers, Tony and Eloy Mascareñas; grandson, Vincent Chavez; and granddaughters, Julie and Joi Chavez.
Carlos was a devout Catholic and faithfully attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. For 15 years, he volunteered to count the collection money every Sunday, mostly to ensure Molly got home safely.
Carlos's services will be held Monday, February 12, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW, Albuquerque, beginning with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and a mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Paul E. Chavez, Lenny Mascareñas, Ted Mascareñas, Tanner Owens, Shane Owens, and Jesse Amarante Chavez.
