Carlos Martin Candelaria

December 5, 1925 — December 23, 2017

Carlos Martin Candelaria, age 92, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017 in Albuquerque. He was born to Jose and Adela Candelaria on December 5, 1925 in Denver, CO. He attended Menaul High School, served as a Sargent in the Army Medical Core in World War II, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico. After marrying Irene Jimenez in 1951, he devoted his life to his family and his Church. Retiring after almost 30 years in the U. S. Civil Service as a commercial artist and manager of the illustration and printing departments at Sandia Base's branch of the Defense Nuclear Agency, he had a second career at Mossman Pools. He retired from that second career to care for his ailing wife, Irene. Carlos was very dedicated to Second Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, where he was a Sunday School teacher, Ruling Elder, Deacon, Trustee, Choir member, and Church Historian among many other roles.

He is survived by his two sons, Jonathan Candelaria and his wife, Kathy, and David Candelaria; two grandchildren, Tara Candelaria and Ryan Candelaria; one sister, Lena De Herrera; and one, brother, Joe I. Candelaria, Jr. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Ines and Adela Candelaria; three sisters, Fidelia Herrera, Esther Gatewood, and Ruth Boelman; and his wife of over 50 years, Irene Candelaria.

Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2017, 10:30 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd NE, with Pastor Robert Woodruff presiding. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Second Presbyterian Church General Fund, 812 Edith Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
