Carl John Weingartner Jr, 82, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away after a battle with carcinoid liver cancer on May 6th, 2022.  He was surrounded by loved ones and will be deeply missed.

Carl was born on August 14, 1939, in Snomac, Oklahoma. He was a member of Varnum High School's state champion baseball team, and played basketball at East Central University in Ada Oklahoma, where he received his Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Education. To start his career in education, he moved to New Mexico, where he married Mary Lou Weingartner, and they raised 3 daughters, Erica, Karin and Amy.

Carl was an educator for over 46 years, and a principal with Albuquerque Public Schools for 22 years, and received many awards, including the National Distinguished Principal Award from the US Department of Education in 1987. One of his proudest accomplishments was establishing the ESP Principal Mentorship program for APS, and becoming a published author of his book, "Principal Mentoring - A Safe, Simple and Supportive Approach", which has been used as a foundation for many successful mentorship programs and can be found in college libraries around the world. Carl loved hosting holiday celebrations and spending time with his family and friends, especially at the cabin which he built in the Jemez mountains. He created lasting memories for all that knew and loved him.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Minnie Weingartner; his siblings, Charles Weingartgner, Bill Weingartner, Dorothy Moser, Joan Stach, and Eileen Sharp; and his wife, Mary Lou Weingartner.  He is survived by his daughters, Erica Weingartner, Amy Weingartner, and Karin Case; son-in-law, Eric Case; grandsons, Samuel Case and family, Thomas Case, and Matthew Case, partner Joanna Cramer and her children Denise Bickel and family, and Andy Cramer, along with many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
