Carl D. Ortiz was born on March 9, 1954 in Carrizozo, New Mexico to Paul and Ramona Ortiz. He passed away on March 26, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Carl attended St. Rita school until his eighth-grade year. He graduated from Carrizozo High school in May of 1972, and went into the Army just days later. He volunteered for Vietnam, but served stateside for the two years he was in the service.
Carl married his high school sweetheart, Donna Wells, on June 18, 1977, and they lived in Albuquerque for all of their married life. He attended UNM, but left before finishing his degree. He was an apprentice for the Local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters union, and got his license as a plumber after four years of schooling. He had a long career working for many different contractors through the union. He was predeceased by his parents, baby sister Judy, and his eldest brother Richard, who passed days before him. He is survived by his wife Donna; daughters April Woods and Carlyn Romero and her husband Tony; sons Jacob Portillo and Joel Ortiz and his wife Brittany; eight grandchildren, Riley, Jared, and Alyssa Woods, Landon, Leilani, and Fiona Ortiz, Zoey and Kylie Romero; and one great grandbaby, Stoney Brooks. He is also survived by brothers Robert, Tony, Fidel and James; along with sisters Frances, Rita, Esther, Elizabeth, and Eloise.
Pallbearers are Joel Ortiz, Jacob Portillo, Riley Woods, Jared Woods, Landon Ortiz and Tony Romero.
Service Information:
Graveside service and burial will be on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 1:30pm at Ft. Stanton, NM.
Officiating will be done by Gerald Wells, music by Paul Pino.
