Camoleat Crowder, 102, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, died Monday August 16, 2021. She is survived by her daughters Camellia Barnes, Dianna Johnson, and Camie Marney, and her son Craig Crowder, as well as their spouses, who are all residents of Albuquerque. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
Camoleat was born in Magnolia Texas in 1919 and graduated Robert E. Lee High School in 1939 and was married to the
Reverend William Durward Crowder
later that same year. They were married for sixty-eight years, at the time of his death, in 2008.
In the years to follow her marriage, Camoleat raised four children. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother while owning and running a custom jewelry company in Houston Texas. In 1978, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, along with her family and their family businesses - The Silver Turtle and Durward Crowder Real Estate.
Throughout her life, Camoleat was family focused. The youngest of eleven children, she kept close touch with her siblings, throughout their lives. After raising four children, owning, and operating her own business, and finally retiring, she spent each day with one of her grandchildren or great grandchildren, giving them love, guidance, and endless examples of a life well lived. When asked what her occupation was, her family chose "Care Giver."
She was called by many names, Camoleat, Cam, Mom, Mommy, Mema, Memaw, and Bope. To all of these, she always answered with a smile and a hug. She touched the lives of everyone she met and was loved by her family and community. She will be greatly missed.
