Calvin L. Cummins of Albuquerque, NM, passed away March 1, 2017, at the age of 92. He was born in Sarcoxie, Missouri, to Warren and Flora Cummins. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alyce; sons, Patrick and wife, Sherry, and Timothy and wife, Ann; and his grandchildren, Allison Cummins, Brian Cummins and Jocelyn Cummins; his niece, Nancy Bracken, and his nephews, Cole Cummins and Rob Bracken.
Cal was raised on a farm, tending to cattle and growing strawberries. At the age of 20, he was drafted into the US Army to serve in the Asian Theater during WWII. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant in just 18 months. He was honorably released from active service in November, 1946, and enrolled in Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, MO. He graduated in 1950 with a BS in Education and a major in Accounting. After graduating, he worked in several jobs including International Harvester and Firestone Tire Company in Springfield. From there, he and his wife, Alyce, moved to Denver, CO, where he was hired by Moore Business Forms as a sales representative. His territory included parts of Colorado and northeast New Mexico. The company transferred Cal to Santa Fe, NM in 1956, and then to Albuquerque in 1965. Cal opened his own company, Impact Business Forms, in 1978. He operated this company until his retirement in 2006 at the age of 82.
Cal was very active in the communities of both Santa Fe and Albuquerque. In Santa Fe, he joined the Junior Chamber of Commerce and in 1958, he was elected to serve on the Jaycees NM State Board; and in 1959, he served in the office of Vice President of the NM Jaycees. Later, in Albuquerque, he participated with his sons and held office in the Albuquerque YMCA Indian Guides. He was also a member of the National Association of Accountants and was active in the Rio Grande Jazz Club and the New Mexico Symphony Guild. He was an avid fan of UNM Lobo Basketball and held season tickets for many years. Cal loved to tinker in the garage with his sons and was a leisure golfer. With his wife and sons, he traveled extensively in the USA and parts of Canada and Mexico. Later, he traveled the world with Alyce.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 20, 2017, 11:30 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Interment will follow the Memorial Service, 2:15 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jackie McGehee Young Artists' Competition by mailing your donation to Music Guild of New Mexico, P. O. Box 3458, Albuquerque, NM 87190-3458.
