Brenda J. Shirk

Brenda J. Shirk was born on Tuesday, August 19, 1941, and passed away quietly Tuesday, July 23, 2024. She is now at peace and resting with her husband of 23 years, Frederick E. Shirk. She is second eldest of 3 siblings. She is survived by her sister Rita, and 3 children, Dwayne M. Couch, Antoinette R. Jaramillo, and Christopher S. Balsewicz.

She leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Kaysie M. Wersonick, Heather R. Vigil, Terra A. McKennon, Christopher E. Balsewicz, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Her long career in hospitality at UNM was an extension of her love for cooking for her family, hosting holiday meals and get togethers. She took great pride in keeping 'Busha's' home immaculate, warm and welcoming for family and friends to drop by.

Her ever-present giggles made us all laugh. She enjoyed taking long walks daily and a Silver Sneakers fitness program. In her retirement, volunteering at the Presbyterian gift shop, she continued to share her light with all who she encountered.

Family will hold a private burial for Brenda on Monday, August 12, 2024, 9:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place after at her home. In memory of Brenda's life, guests are encouraged to dress in western wear.
