Lare, Boyd
Boyd Duane Lare passed away April 22, 2016. He was born in Auburn, NE, September 14, 1930 to Roy and Maurine Lare. After residing in Brock, NE, the family moved to Colorado Springs when he was nine years old. His parents worked at Aircraft Mechanics during WWII. Maurine welded on B-17 motor mounts and Beech Craft landing gears. She worked there over a year and then worked at Peterson Field as a long distance telephone operator to England. His parents were Air Raid Wardens and she worked at the USO. Boyd had a very happy childhood growing up in Colorado Springs. He hiked up Pikes Peak seven times and the family camped or fished most every weekend. He had a job at 12 years of age, delivering medicines to homes for a drugstore.
In 1947 his family bought a farm near Dexter, NM. They later sold the farm and moved to Loveland, CO for about a year. They returned to Dexter where Boyd graduated from high school.
In 1949 he went to Eastern NM College to study engineering. In his second semester he met Jackie Evans, a music major there. They married in 1951 and he went to work for his parents at their Malco Gas Station - grocery store near Dexter. After six years, he was hired by the Soil Conservation Service at Hagerman to be a surveyor. By 1957, he and Jackie and their three children headed to NM State University so he could continue his education. He graduated with honors in 1961. The family moved to Portland, OR where he worked for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1964 the family moved to Albuquerque. He transferred to the US Army Corps. of Engineers, later working with flood control. He retired in 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; daughter, Kathy and Rob; son, Steve and Irene; son, Greg and Teresa; grandson, Jason and Hallie and their twin daughters, Aria and Cadence; granddaughter, Kelly and her daughter, Lorilyn; and grandson, John.
The funeral service will be Friday, April 29, 2016, 2:00 p.m., at FRENCH - University. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
