He was born October 6,1936 to BH and Hazel Corfield and lived his entire life in the South Valley of Albuquerque attending SV schools, graduating from Albuquerque High in 1955. He joined the Marine Corps right out of school and served his country and the Corps.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents are three brothers, Ray, Stan, and Melvin; and two sisters, Althea and Margaret. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara; sons, Ken (Crystal) of Albuquerque and Bob (Tanis) of Alberta Canada; grandsons, Jonathan Corfield of Albuquerque and George Barker of Montrose, CO; granddaughter, Nora Barker of Montrose, CO; Ben Fowler of AB Canada; great-grandson, Dominic of Montrose, CO; and sisters, Maxine Turpen of Murphysboro, TN, Marilyn Irvin (Harry) of Macintosh, NM, and Una Cronoble (Randy) of Rio Rancho. Boyd had many, many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.
He built their home before marriage to Barbara on family land inherited from his parents. There was always a garden and fruit trees. After retirement, he took on canning, preserving, freezing, and dehydrating the vegetables and fruits grown on their land. There was always enough to give away to anyone who came by. He loved going camping and fishing, owned a boat, and learned to water ski along with the boys and their friends. Having an enjoyable time with his family was important to him.
After driving an 18-wheel truck for 15 years, he followed in the footsteps of his father, obtained his mechanical contractor's license, and opened his own business selling, installing and repairing commercial and industrial Laundry and Dry-Cleaning equipment, a trade which he passed on to his sons and maintained for over 40 years.
He was a life-long member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, joining the Jr. Boys club as a teenager and advancing to the adult lodge when eligible. He was a member of Harmony IOOF #1 and Triple Link Rebekah Lodge #10 of Albuquerque. He was active in the Grand Lodge of New Mexico serving as Grand Master in 1983-84, and Grand Secretary 1991-95. He served on the Board of Governors of the IOOF Recreation Area helping to build and develop this beautiful campground in the Manzano mountains. He represented NM at the Sovereign Grand Lodge and served as chairman of the SGL Joint Youth committee in 1995-2000 traveling throughout the US and Canada promoting the youth organizations of the Order.
He and Barbara were blessed to be able to travel the world promoting the IOOF when she was serving as IARA President and on the SGL International Council. Their experiences, friendships, and memories were invaluable and treasured in his later years.
