Boris Murray

d. November 22, 2014

November 22, 2014, Boris Murray, of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away at 78 years of age of natural causes. Boris is survived by two sisters, Joan (Lolly) Rivers and Candy Nelson; his children, daughter, Tracy (Louie) Pangburn; son, Scott (Margie) Murray; his stepchildren, Joanne (Tony) Del Grosso, Denise (Martin) Campos-Thompson, Dianne (Eddie) Campos Garcia; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was known as "Drag Racing's Fastest Motorcycle". He will be missed by his family, fellow drag racers, friends and fans. Boris grew up in Santa Ana, California in 1936 when times were slower. A quiet man with many talents. He loved the ocean, the sound of the waves and collecting sea shells. He loved trains. His Uncle Tom would take him to see the trains and ride the Pikes Roller coaster. I think that's where the thrill of speed set in. He bought a street bike and wanted to see how fast it would go. That's when his artistic talent came into play. He built a drag bike in 1958. Raced it and tuned it to perfection. Sometime in 1965, dad was invited to England to ride his twin triumph. I remember him building the crate for it. Quite an experience. He returned, continued to race and decided to give the land speed record a try. In 1965 off to Bonneville Salt Flats he went. He did set a record that lasted many years. With that under his belt, he began touring with the triumph from coast to coast. Packed up his dog and family, we all had a blast! He set E.T. and speed records all over the country. We won't get into numbers or names of all the wonderful people and racers we encountered. In the midst of his "glory days", a small plaquard was made and placed on the bikes handlebars. It read "This bike turns speeds others dream of". The quiet man smiled when asked how he could be so boastful and would only reply, "It's a fact". Dad dabbled in airplanes, he had a small Cessna that he flew all over. He loved his Street Rods, got to drive the "Smokey" funny ear. He owned HO Trains. But his greatest accomplishments were his family: Grandkids: Brent Murray Christine Smith Jessica Pangburn Devyn Murray Terry Murray Tyler Murray Michael Pangburn Annie Garcia Adam Garcia Great Grandkids: Madeline Murray Brock Murray Jackie Smith Kadence Lucero Cambria Cardenas Brock Smith Please leave your stories of Boris and pictures on this website - it never goes away - and lets keep one of drag racings ledgends alive in memories.
