Bonnie Scott

Bonnie Van Fleet Scott passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, after suffering a heart attack. She is survived by her husband, David Scott; son, Charles Van Fleet and his wife, Jen Van Fleet; and stepchildren, Cristy Nowak and husband, Philip Nowak, Kenneth Scott, and Sandra Benningfield and her husband, Christopher Benningfield; her grandchildren, Samuel Nowak, Elizabeth Nowak, Andrew Nowak, Connor Benningfield, and Caitlin Benningfield; and her great-grandchild, Owen James Spiegel-Blum Nowak.

Bonnie was born in Wisconsin in 1942 and moved to Albuquerque at the age of 2. She graduated from Valley High School in 1960. After marrying Allan Van Fleet, Bonnie began trap shooting and won multiple state championships. In 1966, Bonnie became a mother of Charles Van Fleet. The family moved to Colorado around 1970. Sadly, Allan passed away in 1974 and Bonnie raised her son alone, serving as both mother and father. She held various jobs in Denver, Chicago, and Appleton, Wisconsin before returning to Albuquerque, her beloved hometown.

In 2000, Bonnie met David Scott. A courtship began that culminated in a marriage in Key West, Florida in 2003. Bonnie inherited three stepchildren and three grandchildren in a single ceremony. The family continued to grow with marriages and births.

Bonnie was very active in the community. She was a member of NOW (National Organization of Women), NOBW (National Organization of Business Women), PEO of Albuquerque, Sandia Presbyterian Church, and a lifelong member of the American Trap Shooting Association.

Bonnie loved to travel. Over the past twenty years, Dave and Bonnie took numerous cruises in Europe and the United States. They would travel to Panama City Beach during the winter months to keep warm and enjoy the water. Her favorite place in the world was at any beach. She truly embraced the "Salt Life."

About 5 years ago, Bonnie was diagnosed with lung cancer. She underwent surgery and beat the cancer. Nothing could keep her down for long. Bonnie never met a stranger and she was a friend to all.

In December and early January, Bonnie and Dave spent the holidays with her son and daughter-in-law in Phoenix and visited relatives in California that Bonnie had not seen in a while. Shortly after returning home for the trip, Bonnie suffered a heart attack and left us far too soon.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 17, 2025, 2:30 p.m., at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
