Bonnie Mae McFarling, 98, was born Bonnie Mae Brown on 02-12-1923 in Julesburg, CO to William H and Sarah M Brown. She was received into heaven for her eternal reward on 01-30-2022 in Farmington, NM, surrounded by family and caregivers at the Gingerich Home for the Elderly. She married her life partner, Floyd L McFarling, in Denver, CO, on 03-21-1943 and is now reunited with him.
Bonnie's servant heart led her through a life well-lived, always thinking of others. She was accomplished in many areas including being a homemaker (raising six children), cooking (including her famous Sugar Plum Trees and Wedding cakes of all sizes), knitting and crocheting all types of garments, etc., sewing {all kind of clothes, jackets, and professional quality curtains), and all kinds of crafts {including plastic canvas hot air balloons and her Christmas village miniatures). She was very humble about her abilities and made a comment once that "Well, you kids believed I could do it, so I had to find a way to do it." She was exceptional at anything she did. She was called on by her children several times to plan and organize meal plans for mission trips and college student retreats and never said no.
One of the most memorable experiences that she treasured was a ministry outreach through the First Baptist Church in Albuquerque teaching wives of Taiwanese graduate students at UNM to speak English while teaching them cooking skills. She, of course, learned about their skills as well. The Chinese/American Thanksgiving feast was especially memorable. This led to lifelong friendships for them.
Another ministry she cherished was helping women with cancer undergoing chemo feel better about themselves by providing makeup and color analysis through her Beauty Control affiliation, providing hats, scarves, and other things along the way. She and Floyd also provided transportation to and from doctor and treatment appointments for cancer patients.
Bonnie was active in Crestview and Del Norte Baptist Churches (>40 and >18 years, respectively) working in Nursery and WMU at Crestview, Hospitality at both, and she and Floyd worked in the Library at Del Norte. She is a lifelong member of the Auxiliary for Gideon's International.
She was loved deeply and will be missed dearly by her family and all who had the privilege to know her.
She is survived by her six children: Karen (Tom) Walmsley, Barbara (Carl-deceased) Williams, Russell (Mary) McFarling, Harold (Dawn) McFarling, Dennis (Jan) McFarling, and Gerald (Leslie) McFarling. Also, by 20 Grandchildren, 29 Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, Great-nieces, and Great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Floyd L McFarling, her parents, William H and Sarah M Brown, Sisters-Betty Ethridge and Shirley Scheideman, Brothers-Don Brown, Jim Brown, and Earl Brown, nephews-Bill Brown and Larry Scheideman, nieces-Sherry Kelsay and Georgene Ethridge, Daughter-in-law Julia McFarling, Son-in-law Carl Williams, and Granddaughters Megan Dougherty and Tamara Gallegos.
