Bonita Jean Horton (Bonnie) passed away Friday, August 25, 2023. She was 91 years old. She was the only child of Alta and Paul Snider and was born Friday, June 17, 1932, in Fremont, Missouri. Bonnie was 4 years old when Paul and Alta moved to Albuquerque, where Paul worked with the Santa Fe Railroad and Alta worked at JC Penny's.
Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, Joe Boehning, in 1952, and happily settled into life as wife and mother. In addition, she contributed to Joe's architecture business by providing administrative support. Bonnie and Joe had 3 children: Joanne Costa (husband-Ed), Paula Brunner (husband-Patrick), and David Boehning; and grandchildren Daniel Brunner, Andrew Brunner and Peter Brunner.
Bonnie later jumped fully into the work force where her skills landed her an award as Manpower Employee of the Year.
Bonnie married a second time, to William (Bill) Horton in 1993 and she welcomed Bill's family as part of her own: Gary Horton (wife-Ellen), Bruce Horton (wife-Evy), Scot Horton (wife-Ann), Craig Horton (wife-Karen); and grandchildren Jennifer Horton, Nicole Horton, Steven Horton (wife-Samantha), Lyndsy Willmann (husband-Jirka); and great grandchildren Elliot Willmann and Aria Willmann.
Together, Bonnie and Bill traveled around the world, played tennis, danced, skied, sailed and wind surfed. Bonnie acted as Bill's first mate when they chartered sail boats and took friends on amazing excursions sailing around the Caribbean.
Bonnie's retirement years were spent at Manzano del Sol, where Bonnie's beautiful spirit and easy smile allowed her to engage with everyone she met. She made many close and special friendships with both residents and staff. Bonnie's beautiful and vibrant soul will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to BNSF Railway Foundation.
