Bonifacio "Boney" Sanchez, age 93, a beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa & Papacito passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on December 24, 1929. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1949-1952. He was a Korean War Veteran and was honorably discharged. He was proud to be an American and was very patriotic.
In 1953, Boney met the love of his life, Elijia. They married on April 25, 1953. They settled in Albuquerque, NM & together built a loving family. They were married for 68 years.
Boney worked for Trans World Airlines (TWA) for 30 years. Upon retiring in 1982, Boney had a lot of time on his hands and became a hands on Grandpa, spending most of his time with his kids and grandkids. He worked part time as a security guard at the local bingos and became a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande as an usher for many years. He was a car enthusiast and always loved driving new vehicles. In his free time, he loved having yard sales and eating out with his wife Elijia.
He was the absolute BEST Dad and Grandpa anybody could ever ask for. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elijia and his parents Eduardo and Rosa Sanchez along with 4 of his siblings. He is survived by his children, Diana Garcia, Jerry (Barbara) Sanchez, Leroy Sanchez, Paul (Shelley) Sanchez, Conrad (Jon) Sanchez-Sykes and Elaine Sanchez as well as his grandchildren Nicolette (Chris) Umstead, Nestor (Ashley) Garcia, Leroy Lucero, Dominic Sanchez, Sarah (Luis) Aguirre, Dayton Sanchez, Malia Sanchez and Jason Sanchez as well as his great-grandchildren, Nathan, Dylan, "Little Deputy" Lucas, Ava and Mia, his sister Dorothy Sierra and extended family.
A Rosary will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 9:30 AM, with a funeral mass to follow at 10:15 AM. A full military honor burial to follow at 1:30 PM at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. (All are welcome)
