Bobbie Corinne (Cabbell) FitzGerald

June 4, 1930 — December 16, 2018

On Sunday, December 16, 2018, Bobbie Corinne FitzGerald, quietly passed away at UNM Hospital at the age of 88. She was born in Hillsboro, TX on June 4, 1930 and moved to Fort Worth, TX when she was 6 years old. After graduating high school, Bobbie joined her aunt, who she was named after, on a trip to New Mexico. In Pecos, she met the love of her life, Melvin, who was a handsome WWII Marine. After writing each other for a year, they were married on November 24, 1948 at First Methodist Church in Fort Worth and then made their home in Pecos, where Melvin worked with the US Forest Service. Bobbie's life stories were full of adventure and included exploding bullets, knowing Greer Garson, frequent moving because of Melvin's work for Brown Construction Company, her job at UNM Hospital Pediatric Cardiology and Neurology, researching President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and Buffy, her furry love. After retiring, Bobbie and Melvin enjoyed their time traveling in their RV, playing in slot tournaments, gardening, and "just being together." Bobbie lost Melvin in September 2016 and soon after moved into The Village at Alameda Assisted Living. At the Village, Bobbie was a wonderful volunteer setting up bingo and poker and helping when there was a need.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Felix Cabbell; and sister, Sarah Anne Clifton. Surviving family include her only daughter, Linda Carol FitzGerald and son-in-law, Ivan Westergaard; niece, Felicia Anne Clifton Miller and husband, Gerald Miller; and nephew, Herbert C. Clifton.

Bobbie's only wish was to be buried next to Melvin. Graveside services will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 12:45 p.m. After the service, a celebration of her life is planned at her favorite restaurant, Sadie's on north 4th street, at 3:00p.m. Friends, family and caregivers are welcome.

A heart-felt thank you to UNM Rio Odell Trauma Team and 6th floor staff for the care and compassion they gave Bobbie and her family. The family also expresses their gratitude to the Village at Alameda for their care and making her last home and days the best they could be. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Albuquerque Animal Humane Society, an organization she wholeheartedly supported every year.
