Joanne Carter, 74, dedicated mother, wife, and schoolteacher, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on November 28th 2022. Joanne was known for her infectious smile, creativity, and love of children; not only her own, but also her students. Sewing, walking her dogs, and spending time with her family were but a few of her passions. She graduated from Colorado State University in Ft Collins, CO in 1970 and after moving to Albuquerque in 1991, she taught New Mexico History and Home Economics at Madison Middle School, and AP US History and AP World History at the Public Academy for Performing Arts. She is survived by her husband, Charles Carter; her two children, David Carter and Cara Kist; and her six grandchildren, Caitlyn, Adele, Loralei, Harper, Jacob and Addison. She is also survived by her three siblings, Mike Simpson, Pat Simpson, and Linda Simpson. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Betty Simpson. A Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 6th from 5pm to 7pm at FRENCH-Wyoming. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 7th from 10 am to 11 am at Faith Lutheran Church (10000 Spain Road NE Albuquerque, NM 87111). Graveside Service will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday December 12th 2022 at 1 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
